Established in 1936 in Italy, Bongio has pursued a path of innovation, quality and design to create a comprehensive range of handcrafted taps and bathroom fittings, uniquely ‘Made in Italy’.
As the exclusive distributor for Bongio in the Middle East, SANIPEX GROUP is honoured to catch up with Antonio Bongio, son of company founder Mario Bongio, to discuss his valuable insights into the company.
Bongio has been producing since 1936. How has the company's heritage influenced its craftsmanship and quality over the years?
With a heritage dating back to 1936, Bongio boasts a rich legacy that has undoubtedly shaped its approach to craftsmanship and quality, positioning itself in the bathroom furniture world as an Italian producer of unparalleled quality and craftsmanship.
Across nine decades, Bongio has accumulated a profound knowledge of its craft, the materials used, and the techniques employed to bring it all together. This information has been passed down through generations, refining the skills of master craftsmen, giving Bongio the ability to create high-quality products while ensuring a fine attention to detail. While these techniques are not readily available to new companies that rely on mass-produced machinery, Bongio continues to produce unique tailor-made pieces for those seeking luxurious and exclusive products.
A long history fosters a respect for tradition in the future: it is the past that determines the future.
Almost a century of experience has allowed Bongio to build a solid reputation, attracting customers who appreciate Italian BEAUTY, QUALITY and DESIGN. This, in turn, pushes the company closer to achieving its extremely high-performance goals.
Can you elaborate on your quality control process and the test report that is included with all your products?
Bongio carries out rigorous quality control procedures throughout the entire production cycle of each individual item. Each piece will undergo routine inspections by which skilled hands examine materials for flaws; ensure techniques are followed precisely; and inspect products for imperfections at the final stage.
Beyond visual inspection, Bongio also subjects their products to rigorous testing. This involves stress tests and finish examinations to challenge durability as well as functionality checks to guarantee smooth operation.
Each product comes with its own test report. This report includes specific details about the examinations performed during QC. It outlines the materials used, the tests conducted, and the results obtained. This transparency can assure our customers that their items meet their high standards, as well as our own.
Tell us more about your range of finishes.
Bongio has around 40 different finishes which can be applied to its products and delivered within a reasonable timeframe. It uses its extensive expertise to develop and refine its own galvanic treatment and coating techniques in-house. By handling the finishing process internally, Bongio maintains strict control over the quality and consistency of the finishes applied. The results are a library of completely unique finishes not available elsewhere, that are highly durable and/or corrosion-resistant.
In-house finishing allows BONGIO greater flexibility to accommodate customer requests. They might be able to offer a wider variety of finishes or cater to specific customisation needs while making sure your piece matches your design vision.
Can you share more about your sustainability initiatives?
“Water within proximity means social and economic progress. Clean water means life.” – In line with this philosophy, Bongio has implemented a series of water conservation and global water initiatives.
Since April 2008, all Bongio taps have been fitted with devices designed to reduce water flow to help save both water and energy, with no increase in product costs.
In addition, Bongio proudly supports AMREF® in building water wells for communities in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Since 2006, we have funded the construction of wells to provide clean drinking water, bringing life-changing resources to those in need. Every year, Bongio and all his collaborators are constantly working to donate clean water to those who need. By producing energy-saving taps and supporting initiatives for clean water access, we can make a positive impact – both locally and globally.
