Tell us about the origin and evolution of Terratinta Group.

The embryo of Terratinta Group was Terratinta Ceramiche, the first step with which we brought our idea of ceramics to the market: quality, inspiration, creativity, with a defined and recognisable imprint. Thanks to the work experience that led me to get to know Northern Europe first and foremost, the concept that marked the beginnings of Terratinta was the birth of a warm minimalism that harmoniously combines Scandinavian style with the warmth given by decoration and colour.

Over the years, we have grown into Terratinta Group, incorporating many brands with their own unique characteristics and offering a strong proposal that responds to the needs of the architecture and design world.

What are the key elements of the Terratinta Group style?

Our motto is #notaclassicstory. From the beginning we had clear ideas about what we wanted Terratinta Ceramiche to be: a brand with well-defined characteristics, with a clean and linear Nordic aesthetic consolidated by the founding values of the ceramic district.

With a rich knowledge of the ceramic tradition and the foundations of this district, we have the curiosity to continuously seek new challenges and create new forms and new materials while combining memory with the future. In just a few years, we have developed a family of distinct brands under the Terratinta Group name that all differ in characteristics and production technologies. We propose a unique vision and a complete range with multiple traits – from traditional sizes to small formats, and thin slabs to intricate décor.

Which brands are part of the Group, and how do they differ from each other?

Today, Terratinta Group includes the brands Terratinta, Sartoria and Micro, all of which have a unique vision: to create something capable of generating a break with the past.

Terratinta takes its inspiration from Scandinavian design, enriched by unusual aesthetics for a completely distinctive look that is timeless. We have created a new ‘warm minimalism’, by following the latest trends: from shades of grey that move between concrete and natural stone effects, to the much warmer shades as seen in the iconic Hexa and Stick series. Essential, cosy, elegant and simple is the hallmark of the #terratintastyle.

Sartoria was born in 2017 from the knowledge and understanding of modern ceramic history. Its collections are suited to those who love interior design, small size, colour and decoration, creating a new style with crafted small-scale tiles.

In 2019, Micro. joined the Group, introducing a palette of 13 colours across a variety of collections. The brand reinterprets the traditional Italian finishes of the 60s and 70s, using modern technologies and meticulous design.

Can you describe the process behind creating your tiles?

Creating Terratinta Group’s collections starts with observing market trends and needs. Inspiration comes from a careful analysis of the world of interior design and architecture which are collected as insights to apply to our brands.

Ensuring that every collection meets the high standards we set ourselves, state-of-the-art technology helps to bring our ideas to life with care and attention.

How does Terratinta Group practice sustainability?

In August 2022, we obtained the B Corp certification. Becoming a B Corp company spurs us to improve ourselves as a company and to improve our efforts for the future of our community and the environment through small, measurable steps that bring daily benefits.

For Terratinta Group, sustainability is not a mere trend but a civic duty. We design our products sustainably, using more than 50% recycled raw materials. In addition, we ensure that 99.6% of production waste is recovered for recycling.

Which spaces and areas can customers use Terratinta Group’s tiles?

Our collections are designed to suit a variety of spaces and sectors, thanks to their extraordinary versatility, making them perfect for residential, commercial, and professional environments. At home, they serve as floor and wall coverings in every room such as the kitchen and bathroom, where aesthetics and functionality are essential, and where surfaces are easy to clean and resistant to daily wear and tear.
