A Celebration of Partnership

When Sanipex and Destinkt come together, it’s a fusion of class and youthful vigour. This spirit was the hallmark of the glittering function that marked the launch of Bagnodesign products in South Africa.

The grand launch event, organised by Destinkt in Cape Town in December 2020, was attended by architects, interior designers and leading hotel owners. Former Miss Word Roelene Strauss was among those attended the event anchored by former Miss South Africa Melinda Bam.

Displays of our brassware collection at different stations named after Bagnodesign’s key finishes – Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Brushed Copper, Gold, Zanzibar and Matt Black – were a major attraction at the event: to draw attention to the beautiful brassware and create a lasting impression, beverages literally flowed like water through taps – an ingeniously novel, celebratory feature which was enjoyed by all. Canapés even featured in the copper Truro and pink Penang basins.

The Sanipex Group has been working on a strategy to enter South Africa for quite some time. It’s the South African architects and interior designers who hold the key in hospitality and luxury residential development design in African countries and Indian Ocean Islands. Hence, it’s strategically important to have physical presence in Johannesburg and Cape Town – southern Africa’s leading design hubs.

The Importance of a Partner

Distribution – central stockholding with a chain of retail outlets – is key to successful market entry and it has been the greatest challenge for Sanipex in the South African market. Sanipex Group was in search of the right partner for South Africa and the search zeroed in on Destinkt Bathroom Solutions, a known manufacturer and master distributor of premium bathware in Africa.

“Destinkt stands out as a young, energetic company with a whole new approach to the distribution of bathroom solutions. By virtue of their existing manufacturing business they have an incredible reach with a very strong distribution network to just about every bathroom showroom in the country,” Guy Wilson, Managing Director Trade and Projects MEA, Sanixpex Group, says.

“Even more important is the fact that our two companies share a lot of same values, such as delivery of high-quality design-led products to discerning customers, commitment to excellent service and building long-standing relationships with both our clients and suppliers. In addition, we have worked with Destinkt for almost a decade as a supplier, so a strong relationship is already in place.”

Launching in South Africa

Sanipex’s premium brand Bagnodesign products are now displayed in the two A&D showrooms of Destinkt – one in Cape Town and the other at their head office in Centurion.

The Bagnodesign space greets clients in a dramatic, biophilic styling. The Design Centre features an idealistic selection of products with a focus to favoured finishes from Bagnodesign. Brushed Copper M-Line brassware and Truro basins contrast and compliment dramatic slate walls; Malabar and Princess Nouveau service a classic styling with Revolution bath and basins; whilst Zanzibar reigns against the Harlem American Oak finish which perfectly coordinate to the feature wall.

Bagnodesign has also gained prime display space in select outlets in different regions – Afrikano Tile & Décor and Bella Bathrooms & Tiles in Gauteng area, Cape Plumbing & Bathroom Supplies in Port Ferreiras Tile & Bathroom, Johannesburg. The Aquazone ranges will initially be available through Plumbit, with additional outlets to follow in due course.

First Class Feedback

Conversation during the event expressed that typically most bathroom suppliers in Southern Africa focus on function over design and provide the market with a conservative, mid-range offering that prioritises price over quality and innovation. Designers were historically disheartened that the region had limited access to the latest design-led products and lacked the inspiration and communication of trends to create cutting-edge bathroom designs. But no more! Clients rejoiced that Destinkt has stepped in delivering aspirational, design-led collections, coupled with high-quality craftsmanship and service excellence to change the face of the South African design market.
