The Inspiration

With a millennial client full of fresh ideas, eccentricity was a starting point of inspiration for this apartment in DIFC, Dubai. The colour scheme for the bathroom was intended to coordinate with the rest of the apartment and there was one particular display in the Sanipex Gallery that was a key point of inspiration.

The Design Process

Orintta from Moda Interni interiors explained:

“There was a continuation of black across the apartment as a grounding colour to frame things. We used a muted pink colour in the bedroom, so walking into the Sanipex Gallery and seeing a display with the same pink tiles in a trendy ripple design felt so right, from there everything just fell into place.

The Matt Black brassware and the Mezzanine unit had a great look and were equally key points of inspiration; but for scale of this bathroom, we had the counter and leg set made bespoke.

The client also wanted to add a little more colour in the bathroom, so the psychedelic Futura tiles brought the scheme together – I thought it was risky to make a shower seat from a wall tile as it wasn’t a mosaic, but it worked so well. The floor tile helped dilute the pattern on the wall tile in the shower area and avoid it becoming overpowering. The design is a little crazy and everything that I’m against I used in this bathroom – but I love it.”

Extended Tile Supply

Using the Passepartout tile vertically, as opposed to the standard horizontal composition, added height and was achieved after playing with placement on site – a vital step in ensuring tiles work well in situ. The supply of tiles also extended to include the oversized green Form tile for the bar in the living room, which has been well admired by all visitors.

A Maximalist Win

The statement Teatro bathtub coordinated to the monochrome scheme across the apartment; it was thanks to opening up the space, creating one large bathroom in place of two, that allowed for a statement bathtub to add further drama as well as the ability to take such a maximalist design.
