Eponymously named after their former functions, The Coach House and The Stables are found on the doorstep of the Yorkshire Dales in Ripon. Situated in the oldest city in England, one might expect to find a traditional design style holding homage to the local history – yet there is a contemporary twist to these conversions.

The staircase, for example, introduces a modern design solution of painted steel beams to support wooden steps encased with glass panels to maintain the open plan feeling. Situated beside the exposed brick wall, there is an element of industrial styling – yet the country-style furniture and shaker-style fitted kitchen result in a clever collision of classic and contemporary.
Generous open-plan spaces are swathed in sophistication for extended family and group get-togethers – the first-rate finishes facilitate those with finer tastes desiring a home away from home. The interconnecting vestibule joins the two red-brick structures, each with a private garden, comfortably accommodating 10 guests thanks to five plush bedrooms and bathrooms.
Meticulous Colour Matching
Delving deeper into the discovery of this glorious getaway, luxury also lurks in the bathrooms – all are as breathtaking as the rural views. Whilst each room has its own individual sense of character, a common theme of rest and recuperation runs throughout – sumptuous bathtubs and striking showers allow guests to practice self-care and wash any troubles away.
The exposed brick wall in one guest bathroom hints to a soft industrial scheme, yet the design becomes refined with marble effect tiles, Brushed Copper brassware and Teatro freestanding bathtub – the black skirt of the bathtub meticulously matches the lighting, mirror and even shower panel bracket demonstrating a considered cultivation.
Classic Meets Contemporary
Down the hall, there is a contrast with injection of colour. Blue, white and grey hexagon tiles from Tonalite create the first impression, tying together the floor tiles and classical Colonial vanity unit in white for a coherent scheme. A further shower room designed around Bagnodesign’s Matt Black brassware delivers a fresh monochrome solution, with a hybrid design achieved thanks to the traditional Colonial vanity unit. Yet it is in the master bathroom that we see the embodiment of sophisticated grandeur.

The master bathroom sees conserved beams complimented by wooden countertops, a top which sit bold basins that wouldn’t be out of place in the hottest of hotel bars. One might expect the freestanding stone bath to be the stand-out piece, yet Del Conca’s onyx-effect Onice slab tiles create a striking feature-wall behind the shower to truly command your attention. The brushed brass mirrors and Lacquered Zanzibar brassware is a perfect pairing and balances cosiness with opulence – thanks to the warming hue and golden undertone. The bold basin, contemporary towel radiator and even the support bars of the minimalistic shower panel from Roman are specified in dramatic black tones in keeping with the strong trend of mixing materials and finishes.
